Bio

Coach Velde has been involved with high school coaching since 2014 and has been coaching for 10 years. Coach Velde was born and raised in Carmel, IN, and graduated back in 2010. He played football and baseball while at Carmel High School. Coach Velde was fortunate to be a part of Carmel Football teams that went to the state championships in four consecutive years, in which Carmel won one state championship and three runner-ups. After high school, Coach Velde attended Ball State University for four years, earning his bachelor’s degree in secondary education. Post-college, Coach Velde spent his first three years coaching at Penn High School, where he assisted the offensive line and coached the JV teams on Saturday. While at Penn, Coach Velde was blessed to be a part of a championship state run, but came up short against Center Grove. Coach Velde eventually made his way back home to coach football at Carmel in 2017. Coach Velde continued to coach and work with the offensive line here at Carmel. While coaching at Carmel, the Greyhounds went to state in 2018 (finishing in second place) and then won a state championship in 2019, beating Center Grove.

Coach Velde is extremely excited to be back at Carmel, where he was born and raised before attending Ball State University. Coach Velde’s entire family still lives in and around Carmel. Coach Velde’s dad and grandfather both served over 20 years in the armed forces. Coach Velde’s grandfather earned two Purple Hearts during World War II for his courageous actions fighting in the Pacific. Coach Velde’s father spent 20+ years in the Army National Guard while he was studying law, and later became a senior partner at Kightlinger and Grey Law Firm in downtown Indianapolis. Coach Velde’s dad still coaches youth football in the area and has been a Carmel Pups coach for many years off and on. He loves working with the youth programs around our city. Coach Velde’s mom worked at Eli Lilly for many years before staying home to raise two young boys. Coach Velde’s brother is a head chef, where you may find him working in the back of Anthony’s Steakhouse in downtown Carmel, and he works for his own catering company in the area

Coach Velde is truly excited to be back at Carmel working with amazing young athletes and men and representing the school that gave so much to him and his family! He couldn't be more proud to call Carmel his home and does everything he can to represent the city and community that gave so much to him and his family. Thank you for all the support and for allowing me to coach in such a special place. Go Hounds!!
